Voice of an Angel

By Rails (translated by Mark van Setten)

She has the warmest voice of Ireland. The best songwriters are at her feet: if she could please use one of their songs in her repetoire. If Mary Black sings them, they sound like being sung with the voice of an angel. Her masterpiece is still The Holy Ground from 1993, in which she rises above Van Morrison on the spiritiual level and that makes you see the green hills of Ireland when listening to it. But also on her most recent CD's, she sings in way that makes the shivers run from your ears to you backbones.
