| 2002-01-16 | Canadian singer songwriter Eileen
Laverty has been invited to be the support act for Mary's upcoming
tour of Ireland. Mary recorded Laverty's song Wildest
Dreams for The Best of Mary Black 1991-2001,
which was also the first single of the album.
Originally from Belfast, N. Ireland, Eileen Laverty retains a strong attachment to her celtic roots. She began her musical career with the Saskatoon celtic band, SIAMSA, leaving in 1996 to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. Since then, she has charmed audiences across Canada with her honest songwriting and sense of humour. Dancing With Angels, Laverty's debut cd, won a Prairie Music Award for Outstanding Roots Recording. Of the ten songs on the album, eight of them are her own, with two covers: Steve Earle's My Old Friend the Blues, and Dougie MacLean's Caledonia. Laverty's lyrics and melodies have a universal appeal, and are accentuated on the album by the fine musicianship of the17 Saskatchewan musicians who contributed their talents to the record. Dancing with Angels was recorded in Saskatoon by Jared Kuemper and produced by Greg Hargarten. Eileen has shared the stage with many accomplished performers; most notably, Canada's tenor, John McDermott, who invited her to perform several dates on his recent Canadian Tour. Laverty's music has received considerable support from CBC and is frequently featured on radio programs in Canada and the US. She is currently touring in support of her album. |
