I was living
in Paris - had a great night on the town with a friend from Dublin - we sat
on the floor of her apartment listening to "My younger son came home
today" until we had all the words right ant picked out a few cords
on the guitar - the next day for the hell of it both Ail and I went busking
in the metro with our one tune - we did make some cash - that was 1985ish.
I told the family back home of my new found Folk artist - they bought the
cassette and loved it too. I came home for a holiday some time later and to
my surprise my brother had bought me tickets to see MB at some hall in Dub
- what a treat.
Since then I have
travelled the world ( now living in Perth WA) giving gifts of various MB albums
and dragging the newly converted to any concert- from the Guinness festival,
the Port Ferry folk festival and most recent at the
Perth Concert Hall. It got to the stage where friends would say we will come
around once you DON'T play Mary Black. You will be glad to know I have branched
out. Still to the David Gray fans I cant help saying "have you heard
the CD Shine by MB". I used to manage restaurants in Melbourne and Sydney
- of course I played MB - and day a guy from the US heard The Moon and St
Christopher he loved it as he had not heard the MB version before - I told
him where to buy the CD, the next day he returned with the entire MB catalogue
- he was a DJ for a middle of the road station in the US - he wrote me later
(strange man) to tell me that he has being getting regular calls from listeners
asking who is the artist and where does one pick up the CDs. Yea I should
be on commission
Hope this amuses someone. Enjoy the forgotten Harvest "where does the time go"
Cheers Paddy
