Hello fellow Black fans, I'm a 40 year old Irish American and I first saw Mary Black perform in 1994 at the Sheldon theater in St. Louis. She really put on a beautiful show and transported the whole audience for several hours. I'll never forget it. "Her music makes me want to light a hundred candles and dance around the room in a sort of trance" said the woman who introduced her and it was well put. Musical magic! After the show I guessed that she'd go down to the Irish pub in town to hob-nob with old Joe Macsomething or other ... the local Irish music guru and musician. She was there with some of the band and I was glad to get her autograph and have a chat with her drummer. There was no speaking with Mary as Joe had her quite occupied. I'm sure it was a memorable evening for him with the queen of Irish music, "herself" in the flesh (as the Irish would say) and as dark eyed and lovely as ever! I bought 5 of her albums and was glad when she came back for a second show only a month later. I brought all of my friends down to see her! It's been a while since I've seen her perform but I often play her rendition of "A Song for Ireland" as I'm always moved by the intensity with which she renders the dual themes of good fellowship and reverence for natural beauty.
