About five years ago, we went to Ireland for the very first time. Knowing Irish Music only via Clannad or U2. In that time Clannad released "Banba" , and we got a copy on tape from a friend of ours. Being the only tape we had with us, it seemed that Banba would have a big influence on our vacation. The first day in Ireland it was raining (of course), and we were on a campsite near Dublin. So we decided to go to Dublin, by bus. In Dublin it was still drizzling, so we spent some time in St Patrick's Green shopping centre (covered). After seen it all, we went out, and found a big music store from HMV (His Masters Voice). We went in, and listened to some music. One of the CD's displayed, was "A treasury of Irish Music" from HMV. (it is not mentioned in your discogrpahy, probably because it is only sold in Ireland ?)They had some CD players hanging here and there on the columns, and you could select the CD's displayed there to listen too. So we listened to this CD, and especially my wife was very exited about one track on this CD, Mo Ghile Mear, sung by a Mary Black (never heard of). And because of this track we decided to buy this CD. We were able to play this CD in our car (via a portable CD player) and throughout the rest of our stay in Ireland (two weeks with beautifull wheater, in September !!) we enjoyed the music on this CD. Once in Cork we visited another HMV store, and bought the first CD of Mary Black we could find (Just called Mary Black(. And that's where it all started with. About 50% of our CD's nowadays is Irish or with Irish/Geallic roots. Indeed, Geallic music has become fashionable, but only a few people in NL know of Mary Black. And that is not the respect she deserves. More and more people in our neighbourhood start to like Mary Black, hearing the music at our home. And since our first visit in Ireland, we never missed a concert of Mary in NL. This year we have had the big opportunity to buy Mary's last album on our second stay in Ireland. We bought it in the Music Store where it all started, HMV on Grafton Street in Dublin. It was pitty to hear that Mary Black was signing her CD's at that time in Galway !! We missed that! But it was really great to be back after some five years, with our little one year old, daughter. Poking around in the CD stands for some new Irish Music, Carin (our daughter) crawling around, and hearing Mary Black's new album in the back-ground.
