Hi, My name is Laurie Snyder. I'm 29 and have been for the last 12 years. I first heard Mary Black on a little ol' college radio station in my hometown of Memphis, TN. I think it was around 1984-85. The song I heard was "Ananche Gordon". I remember stopping what I was doing and listening. The DJ later said that the response to the song was so overwhelmingly positive that he was going to play it a second time on the same program. I first got to hear Mary live a year and a half ago when I visited Ireland and just before I left the states found out about something called "The Gael Force Tour". I called a friend in Dublin and he got us tickets. It was incredible. DeDannan, Eleanor Shandley, Tommy Fleming, Maura O'Connell and Mary Black all on the same stage! Delores Keane was supposed to be there but didn't appear. I then saw her last November in Louisville where I got to meet her. I have most of her recordings on almost worn out cassettes (I usually listen to her in my car on the way to work and back). Oh, and by the way, I'm the lucky person who won the autographed Mary Black Songbook! My guitar teacher and I are working on a couple of the songs now. Sorry so long, but I have a tendacy to gush.
